Ben has significant experience as a serial entrepreneur and private investor, and has founded, built and sold numerous companies in the specialty chemicals and energy services sectors. Currently, Ben is a co-founding Managing Director of Chem Advances, LLC, and Advanced Applied Research, LLC, holding companies for industrial technology commercialization and applied industrial research, respectively.
Of other investments of note, in 1995, he co-founded LandTel Communications, LLC, which grew into the market-share leader in satellite communications for drilling rigs. LandTel went 13 consecutive years without an unprofitable month. Davis and fellow shareholders sold the company to a private equity syndicate via a two-step transaction in 2006 and 2008. In 1997, he co-founded Aquatica, Inc., a commercial diving firm, exiting publicly in 1999 via sale to Cal Dive International, becoming with his partners as a group the 4th-largest shareholder of Cal Dive. In 2003, Davis also co-founded Sea Fluids, LLC, a bulk chemical terminal services company for U.S. Gulf of Mexico oil & gas operations. In 2007, Davis invested in Westlake Group LLC, an investment bank headquartered in Austin, where he holds 62 and 63 FINRA licenses.
Ben is a Baylor University honors graduate, with undergraduate and graduate degrees in Finance and Economics and a law degree with a concentration in Business Planning & Drafting. From 1999 to 2007, he was a member of The Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO), and is a graduate of the Birthing of Giants program co-sponsored by MIT and EO. Among other activities, Ben previously served as Chair of the Board of Trustees of Trinity Episcopal School, Austin, Texas.
